The Northeast Asian Studies College successfully completed the Project "Construction Status of Confucius Institutes in Japan"

From October 13th2019, the Northeast AsianStudies College's project "Construction Status of Confucius Institutes in Japan" set of its team for Japan to carry out an 8-day research.

   

In order to enhance the international competence and promote the  "double first-class" construction of Jilin University, Vice Dean Wang Yanjun and Professor Shen Haitao led a total of 7 doctoral and master students majoring in international politics, demography, and world history to form the team and conduct the research.

During the 8-day research, the team visited Doshisha University, the Faculty of Economics of Ritsumeikan University, the Confucius Institute at Ritsumeikan University, Tama University, the Confucius Institute at the University of Technology, and the Confucius Institute at Musashino University to gain insights into the operation of Confucius Institutes in Japan. The research team also participated in the 4th HSK China Study Abroad and Job Search Conference hosted by the Confucius Institute Headquarters Hankao International and the Japan Youth Development Association. They learned about Japanese students’ willingness to learn Chinese on the spot. In addition, the team also visited Japanese universities that have not established Confucius Institutes, such as Doshisha University and Tama University, and conducted research on the Chinese teaching status of these universities, and learned about the attitudes of various universities towards the establishment of Confucius Institutes.

The research activities of the "Construction Project of Confucius Institute in Japan" received extensive attention from relevant universities in Japan. The relevant persons in charge participated in the discussion and accompanied them to visit the teaching facilities of the Confucius Institute. They introduced various activities carried out by the Confucius Institute in detail. The research activities achieved good results.

On October 20th 2019, the research team successfully completed the scheduled tasks and returned to China. Through this activity, the project team has in-depth understanding and analysis of the construction status, difficulties, and future development of Confucius Institutes in Japan, and has formed a more comprehensive understanding of Japan from economic, social, and cultural perspectives.
